| About Us The late Dr Dawn Crouch, former Consultant Historian of the Westgate Heritage Centre The Westgate-on-Sea Heritage Centre was founded by the late Dr Dawn Crouch and opened officially on 31st March 2007 by Roger Gale MP for North Thanet. The Centre also covers some of the history of Westbrook, which lies to the east of Westgate, between Westgate and Margate. The history of Westbrook is also included because the history of the “two new towns” as they were called in a letter of 1871, is inextricably linked. We are continually adding to our research and this can often be initiated by enquiries or contributions from those interested in Westgate's past. Our materials on Wartime Westgate contain a great deal of oral history of the Westgatonians who were living in the area during the Second World War. The Centre relies upon generous donations from local residents and businesses and we are grateful for this support to help us continue our work. We have been pleased to receive support from the Co-op’s Community Fund and from the National Lottery’s Heritage Lottery Fund.
